Projects

Projects let you track billable time and measure profitability for a named client engagement.

Creating a project

  1. Go to Projects and click New Project.
  2. Enter a name and optionally pick a client from your existing customers.
  3. Optionally set a start date, end date, and a budget (total cost target in your currency).
  4. Click Save.

Logging time

Open a project and click Start to begin a live timer for a new time entry — it runs in place on both the project detail page and that project's row in the all-projects list. Before starting, set a billable rate: type one in manually, or pick an existing product/service from the catalog to auto-fill its price. Click Stop to finalize the entry, optionally adding a comment.

You can also skip the timer and log time manually: use the time entry form to enter a date, duration, an optional description, an hourly billable rate, and whether the entry is billable. Every entry — timed or manual — appears in the project's Time Log with its computed amount (duration × rate).

Converting time to an invoice

Billable entries that haven't been invoiced yet can be selected with the checkbox in the Time Log. Once you've selected one or more, click Convert N to Invoice, enter the customer, and RSA creates a draft invoice with one line per selected time entry. The entries are then marked as invoiced and can't be selected again.

Project summary

The project detail shows:

  • Expenses — the total of bills and expenses linked to this project.
  • Net — revenue minus expenses.
  • Budget utilisation — expenses against the budget, shown as a progress bar if a budget was set.
